Chilches, the small village, is located slightly inland and belongs to the municipality of Vélez-Malaga. Although the village is not directly on the coast, the beach of the same name (Chilches Playa) offers everything you need for a relaxing day by the sea. The dark sandy beach is not very wide, but it is very long. You won't find any high-rise buildings here. Small modern urbanisations, most within walking distance of the beach, dominate the development. In the high season, Spanish holidaymakers dominate, but outside the summer holidays you have the beach almost to yourself. There are excellent fish restaurants, small bars and shops that are open all year round. And a trip to the "original" Chilches is always worthwhile.
