Beauty, history and delicious Moscatel - who can say no to that?
Almáchar, with its winding narrow streets and whitewashed houses, lies 246 metres above sea level and is home to around 1,900 inhabitants. Like many villages in the Axarquia, Almáchar is of Moorish origin. Surrounded by vineyards and orchards, Almáchar is nestled in a green landscape. The outstanding quality of the grapes grown here produce world-famous sultanas and excellent Moscatel wine. A glass of this wine in one of the village's small bars is not to be missed. The beauty of the landscape, the mild climate and the proximity to the sea are attracting more and more people who love rural tourism or want to settle here completely.
