El Acebuchal, the lost village, is located within the natural park of the Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama. It borders Frigiliana and Cómpeta, two of the most beautiful white villages in the Axarquia.
El Acebuchal belongs to the municipality of Cómpeta and was nicknamed the "ghost village" for a long time. In the 1940s, this small village was a refuge for the anti-Franco guerrilla group "Maquis" and for this reason was more or less dissolved and abandoned to its fate during Franco's dictatorship. But thanks to the García Sanchez family, El Acebuchal was brought back to life in 1998 and has been an integral part of rural tourism ever since.
