The Sun coast with its 161 km length stretches from the beaches of the province of Granada to the Strait of Gibraltar. The most interesting tourist places on the Costa del Sol are Almuñecar, La Herradura, Nerja, Torrox, Torre del Mar, Málaga, Torremolinos, Mijas, Estepona and Marbella.
Every year, hosts of sun-hungry tourists from all over the world arrive at the Malaga airport to spend the most beautiful weeks of the year here on the Sunny coast. It is not only the beautiful beaches and the good leisure facilities, it is also the bright blue sky and this unique light which enchants the visitors. And many fall in love that they settle down here. The mild winters are suitable for sports activities of all kinds, such as golf, hiking and horseback riding.
Almuñecar: The coastal town with its approximately 25.000 inhabitants, which is very popular with Spaniards as well as with international visitors, is dreamlike located at the mouth of the Rio Verde and gently nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains of the hinterland. With approximately 340 sunny days and an annual average temperature of about 17.5 degrees Celsius you can safely forget the thick winter jacket. The romantic old town with its small shops and whitewashed houses in Moorish style, the inviting market hall, historic buildings and the over 19 kilometre coastline with beautiful beaches, have made it that many holidaymakers did not hesitate to settle here temporarily or completely.
La Herradura: Formerly a district of Almuñecar, this small fishing village with about 4.000 inhabitants has developed into a popular hot spot for water sports enthusiasts. "La Herradura" means horseshoe and refers to the characteristic shape of the bay where this pretty village is located.
Torre del Mar: "The Tower of the Sea", is a district of Vélez-Málaga, the provincial capital of the Axarquía. This very Spanish-dominated coastal town with about 20.000 inhabitants offers beautiful beaches, very good shopping opportunities, a varied night life with excellent gastronomy and a year-round mild climate.
There is a large yacht and fishing port in the neighbouring Caleta de Vélez.
Málaga: (approx. 570.000 inhabitants) Málaga the capital of the Costa del Sol is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and Antonio Banderas, Historic buildings, modern shopping streets, museums and parks make this fascinating city a real experience. Here, sun and beaches become a minor thing. The Andalusian port city also serves many cruise ships as a starting point or stopover on their journey.
Málaga should not be missed.
Torremolinos: The former fishing village, with today about 68.000 inhabitants, is undoubtedly the capital of tourism in Andalusia. Miles of beaches, mild climate, sport, culture, tradition and modernity have not only once enchanted Salvador Dalí or Grace Kelly, but are now attracting thousands of sun-hungry tourists from all over the world. But not only the sun, the beaches and the sea make this place so attractive, but also the proximity to Málaga, Benalmádena or Fuengirola play a big role in this.
Mijas: (approx. 78.000 inhabitants) With its picturesque alleys and spectacular views to the coast, Mijas Pueblo is one of the most attractive mountain villages at the Costa del Sol. Spaniards, British, Germans, Scandinavians and many more, live here at 428 meters above the sea level. This village, with a typical Moorish past, has a lot to offer. Flamenco, quaint bars but also museums and historic buildings. The biggest attraction, however, is undoubtedly the “Donkey Taxi”. Colourfully decorated, the good animals are waiting for customers. Not only for children a real experience.
Down at the coast you find Mijas Costa with its beautiful beaches, shopping malls, hotels and restaurants.
Estepona: Located in the immediate vicinity of Marbella, this attractive coastal town with about 68.000 inhabitants has a lot to offer. Mild Mediterranean climate, long sandy beaches, exclusive hotel facilities and restaurants. Another highlight of the community is the Orchidearium, the Orchid House, located in the centre.
Marbella: At the beginning of the 1950s, discovered and made famous by a nobleman, this formerly dreamy fishing village lured the international jet set in abundance to its beautiful beaches.
As time went by, the splendour lost itself, but it came back, and so the wonderful Marbella is once again enjoying full popularity with VIPs and ordinary citizens. Not only the beaches, but also the romantic old historic town with small shops and restaurants is worth seeing.
Marbella (approx. 141.000 inhabitants) stands for luxury. Exclusive shops line the promenade at the famous Marina Puerto Banús and lovers of golf are also at their expense in Marbella. And so it is not surprising that you can find a multitude of attractive urbanizations around Marbella for a permanent home or holidays.
